Mission and where the church is failing
The single greatest thing that struck me when becoming a Christian is that although the good news is liberating, the implementation of Mission appears to be very lacking. We are supposed to first and foremost love our neighbour, feed the poor and stand up for social justice especially when no one else will.
But the church also fails those that are within its own walls. I have yet to find a congregation that has a community support fund. A fund to help its own congregants when they are in trouble. There are few Christian burial societies within the UK and if they exist they are hard to find. All those life journeys that are made much easier by the community are being failed. While churches seek the funds to keep the roof from leaking, they are forgetting about the welfare of the fabric of their existence. People.
