War at any cost - is the Bible wrong?
The Bible is one of the most violent and most-read books. Many excuse the continued use of this rather violent text as its relevance of Gods word. But there must be so much more to it than just the detailed violence and morbid fascination that goes with it.
The Bible not only details war and violence but also its consequences. It is therefore not surprising that alongside some of the most graphic recollections of a violent history comes the pleading for peace. And yet thousands of years later, here we are still at each other's throats. War is sanctioned by the bible. In Ecclesiastes 3:8, we are told that there is a time to love and a time to hate, time for war and time for peace. Since God created the order of nature then time being part of that order relates to love/hate, war and peace.
So why would the bible sanction war, particularly given that the cost and consequences are so high?
